Nerainian Race History

I just thought I'd write about how the Nerainian race came to be. That is, if anyone's interested in reading it. I finally worked out some discrepancies with the Nerainian powers and I personally think I did a good job. Enjoy!

Long ago, approximately 20,000 years ago, before the Dom’Kavash opened the intergalactic gates, they undertook a mission to create life on many of the dead planets of our galaxy. Neran was one such planet. They started work on Neran about 5000 years before opening the intergalactic gates.
They created two dominate races on our planet. The Raenans, and the Niklas. The Raenans were a semi-feral, canine race. Very strong, very intelligent, very fast, but not, as a human would say, civilized.
The Niklas were a race of humanoids much like the humans of Earth, but different. They were not as physically adept as humans, but they were much more intelligent and had a very stable society. The Niklas power, unlike the Raenans, was with their mind. Each and every one of them could read, project, and manipulate thoughts very easily. As such, they grew in their society to reach heights comparable to the Golden Age of Mankind back on old Earth, but because of the lack of natural resources on Neran, neither side had any technological advancement to speak of.
The differences in Raenan and Nikla psychology eventually caused a long, bloody, and unending war about 1000 years after their creation. They fought endlessly, neither side able to trump the other. The Niklas could get inside the minds of the Raenans and destroy them from the inside or turn them on each other, and the Raenans, if they got close enough, could tear the Niklas apart with ease. The Raenans also began to learn how to block the Niklas psychic powers, and the Niklas just kept learning new tricks and getting stronger.
After a war that continued for 300 years, with no sign of stopping, the Dom’Kavash visited Neran to see how their “experiment” was going. They were appalled by the war that had broken out and sought to end it.
The Dom’Kavash took both a single Nikla and a single Raenan from the planet to look at their genetic structures to see how it had changed over time since their creation. They compared the two DNA sequences, and found a way to combine the genetic structures into a single, powerful race. Both sequences were very similar, but there was one chromosome that caused a huge difference in how they behaved and looked. The Dom’Kavash combined this chromosome into something that would mix the Nikla and Raenan genetic structures to create what is now known as the Nerainians.
The Dom’Kavash created a very potent supervirus that would alter the genetic code of each and every Nikla and Raenan on the surface of Neran to become a Nerainian. They believed that this would neutralize the hostilities between the two races by making them unified.
After the virus was released into Neran, the Nerainians were born. A genetic combination of the Raenans and the Niklas. The Dom’Kavash left after the fighting stopped, but did not find out about certain side effects.
The Nerainians looked mostly like the Niklas, humanoid. But, in their genetic sequence was the Raenans. They could change back and forth, at will, to resemble the Raenans. As a side effect, they regressed psychologically to more like the Raenans while they were in this form, but they did retain control of themselves.
The combination of the genetic structures also produced a huge leap in evolution that the Dom’Kavash could not foresee. The psychic power of the Niklas changed into other things as a result of the addition of Raenan DNA. The power could be anything from manipulating the control of energy, to being able to heal another life-form. The Nerainians, practically overnight, were suddenly the most genetically advanced race in the Milky Way galaxy. Unfortuanatly, the Dom’Kavash never found out the fruits of their “experiment” until after they had opened the intergalactic gates.
